Trauma healing and counseling are essential parts of our annual Summer Camp programs. Our organization is dedicated to supporting children who have endured abuse, violence, extreme poverty, and other hardships that deeply affect their lives. It is truly heartbreaking to see so many children in Northern Nigeria suffering from various traumas caused by insecurity, loss of loved ones, and a high rate of poverty.
Have you ever wondered what thoughts pass through the minds of these children, who face violence and suffering from such a young age while trying to make sense of the world? How do they manage to get through each day amidst constant hunger, pain, anger, and confusion? Trauma causes long-lasting suffering, leading to feelings of insecurity, emotional weakness, loneliness, and long-term mental breakdown.
For children, these feelings often manifest as fear, low self-esteem, and a deep craving for love. That is why, at Hasken Rayuwa, counseling for healing is a vital part of our work. We engage the children in fun activities like dancing and singing, creating a safe space for them to relax and express themselves.
Listening to their stories helps them release the pain and fears they’ve kept inside, and we believe that every child deserves love, support, and a chance at a brighter future. This approach also reassures them that they are not alone, they are seen, valued, and cared for, with their safety and trust as our highest priorities.
