When you think of a teacher, what comes to your mind?
At Hasken Arewa Foundation, we believe that education is a way to eradicate poverty in communities in Northern Nigeria, and with our Staff teachers, whose role in the lives of public schools children cannot be overemphasized.
A teacher is a guardian, who guides us through formal education and good morals. He/she trains us to become better, by shaping us intellectually, socially, and morally. Teachers are an important aspect of the students’ lives. They are known for their commendable act of imparting knowledge, skills, and values to their students and supporting their overall growth.
Public schools in Northern Nigeria, though funded by the government, and in some cases the education is made affordable for the masses, is no news that our public education system is poor due to challenges. Imagine a teacher teaching more than a subject to a classroom of 50 to 60 students alone. This is why we at Hasken Arewa Foundation are out as solution to this problem, by helping in taking up some subjects to lessen up the load on full time teachers.
Our Staff teachers have dedicated their time and hearts to not only help in tutoring these children in the classrooms but also in shaping their lives for the better by mentoring, guiding, and molding them to be disciplined and of good character. We believe school is not just a learning ground, but also a place to learn good morals.
When NGOs, and individuals, partner with other NGOs, great achievements are bound to happen.
We thank God for our partners, the TTT(Teach to Transform)an incredible organisation, out to get and equip partners around the world with Medical and vocational skills to help assists them in sharing the gospel. Through their collaboration, we are able to reach out to several children in public schools, and young women effectively, by sharing God’s love and attending to their medical and emotional health.
With passion, and commitment to the growth of these children, It is not enough that our impact is limited to just the classroom, our teachers take out days in each semester to go on Free Medical Outreaches, proper personal hygiene orientation, and trauma healing counseling within the community of their respective assignment, targeting the children and young women.This act shows that we are not just after the children’s academic excellence but also their mental and physical health that will last a lifetime.
We believe that, with little efforts and assistance from here and there, public schools can improve for the better, and we are already on the move.
