Combating Children and Women Malnutrition in Rural Communities

Imagine you live in a small village far from any clinic or hospital. It takes hours to get there on foot. Clean water is hard to find around, and basic health amenities feels like something only rich people can afford. You’re a mother, and you worry a lot because your children easily catch preventable illnesses like diarrhea, malaria, or chest colds, and these are sicknesses that could be stopped with simple handwashing and basic health information. Think of a young woman trying to stay healthy during pregnancy, while feeding her family, and taking care of everyone’s health, all by yourself with no real help. This is what life looks like for many families in the communities of Northern Nigeria . Hospitals are usually far away, health care is hard to get, and simple preventable sicknesses hit kids and women the hardest.

Northern Nigerians, faces so many challenges that contributes to the poor situation of healthcare, problems like, bad roads, too few doctors in their hospitals, high rate of poverty, and little focus on preventing sickness which makes the children more likely to get sick. Mothers also face bigger dangers during pregnancy and childbirth.

Healthcare helps children grow strong and health. It stops sickness, makes sure children eat well, and helps their body and brain grow. Regular checkups and medication keeps children safe. This helps them feel good, learn better, and build a good start for life. That is why, Hasken Rayuwa Foundation has stepped in as a source of hope to these undeserved places, offering people the opportunity to get what they rightfully deserve, a good health care, by empowering them with practical knowledge and resources on how to go about taking care of their health with simple routines that can help with preventable sicknesses.

In rural communities , health care is hard to reach as hospitals are often far away from their homes and when they eventually make it to the hospital, there is usually not enough staff to attend to them, so children  miss medical check-ups, and early treatment, while the women carry most of the burden of managing family health while lacking access to prenatal care, family planning, and basic lessons on good nutrition and hygiene. Without this knowledge, preventable sicknesses spread easily, such as the ones gotten from dirty water, malnutrition, and common childhood diseases.

Our goal is to give  to every vulnerable communities in Northern Nigeria. Our work in underserved areas, includes project,  supporting children and women, teaching them simple steps like, handwashing with soap, safe water storage, recognizing early signs of illness, and understanding the need for early medication. We support clean water projects and teach them simple methods to purify water and maintain sanitation, reducing risks of diarrhea and other infections that hits children the hardest.
