Rebuilt Hope: Bringing Water Solutions to Underserved Villages by HRF.

Every child deserves safe water to learn, grow, and thrive in a healthy environment.

The state of clean water in Northern Nigeria is a critical issue shaped by severe geographical disparities and a lack of significant infrastructure. According to data from the Nigeria National Bureau Of Statistics (NBS), the northern regions consistently record the lowest access to improved water and sanitation services in the country.

In April, the Hasken Rayuwa Foundation donated a borehole to a community in Jigawa. By building a water borehole, we demonstrate our support and remind everyone that access to clean, safe water is not optional but a necessity. A borehole provides a reliable source of safe water, helping women and girls who spend daily hours traveling to distant streams—often contaminated—which can lead to cholera, typhoid, dysentery, and diarrhea.

Worldwide, access to clean water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) is essential for child survival, with unsafe water causing over 443,000 deaths annually in children under five. Clean water helps prevent diseases like cholera, diarrhea, and typhoid, reduces malnutrition, and enhances education by preventing school absences, according to the World Health Organization (WHO).

At Hasken Rayuwa Foundation, our programs focus on community impact, and providing clean, sustainable water solutions where they are needed is one way we create transformation in our communities. We thank our partner organizations for their continued support, and we believe that together we will reach many communities in need.
