When we look into the life of a woman, what do we truly see? I see sacrifices made with unwavering diligence, resilience that knows no bounds, endless love, and continuous growth. A woman is more than just an individual, she is a sanctuary, a source of safety and stability for her family. She rises before the sun does, organizing and preparing everything before others even wake up. Blessed with extraordinary abilities, she juggles numerous roles often working longer hours than she rests, yet she manages her family with remarkable strength, acting as the invisible glue that holds everything together.

But what happens when her environment restricts her from reaching her full potential? Sadly, this is the harsh reality faced by many women in the rural communities of Northern Nigeria. They are vital to food production, processing, and agricultural livelihoods, often handling a large percentage of food task. Despite their crucial contributions, they confront severe gender discrimination, barriers like limited land ownership, restricted access to finance, and poverty rates higher than those of men in their communities.
The silent strength of rural women cannot be overstated. Though many may lack formal education, they are powerful agents of change within their homes and communities. Working under tough, hazardous conditions, walking long distances, tending to crops with little help, yet they are the backbone of their communities.

It’s often said that “a sick family is a sick society,” and that’s why we must support, uplift, and celebrate women everywhere. We were created as women by divine design, God made us capable problem solvers who keep families and communities harmonious. An empowered woman builds resources not just for herself but for everyone around her.
We can turn our situations into opportunities. Lack of formal education doesn’t diminish your worth as a woman. Look around you, there are paths to growth, just to mention a few: Develop agricultural skills, by embracing modern farming, livestock management, poultry, or dairy farming, Learn vocational skills, by learning handcrafts, shea butter processing, or tailoring cooperatives to create your own income, and Participate in village meetings and community groups to influence decisions, shape your future, and helps you find your voice.
We are a powerhouse of potential and strength, and with God by our side, we will reach our full potential.
