Teacher of the Month at Hasken Rayuwa Foundation: Meet Ishaya Joshua…
Their work is far beyond just transfering knowledge from a textbook. They allow the students to think deep, help them in building their confidence, and provide a safe space or environment for their students to grow. Through unwavering patience and encouragement, they pay attention and discover the unique potential in every one of their students. They are mentors, cheerleaders, and role models, their impacts on the students always leaves a lasting impression that goes far beyond the classroom walls.
Meet Mr Ishaya Joshua,” I became a teacher because teaching enables me to impact knowledge, transform students’ behaviour, and guide them to Christ.” He said, “ Seeing teaching as a call by Christ to serve through students always motivates me to keep serving”, and I hope to raise students who are academically excellent and who will also influence the world for Christ.
Mr Ishaya Joshua is serving with our Organisation, Hasken Rayuwa Foundation, in the Education Department as a Citizenship Education teacher for 1 year 6 months now. He describes his journey so far as “Mission work taught me to always depend on God. I learned that being a teacher doesn’t stop at the school door. It’s really about getting out there, taking the bus, and using every chance you get to connect with people and make a difference.”
What do you enjoy most about teaching? “I enjoy seeing many hands go up whenever I ask questions during lessons. It assures me that the students are understanding what I’m teaching”. He further said his method of teaching is quite interactive, “I use storytelling and involve students for examples in a playful way. That makes the lesson understandable and pleasurable”.
One challenge he faced and overcame was, “Teaching students who were not coming to school regularly was difficult at first. But through patience, prayer, and advice to the students, everything is now okay”.
Integrating faith and character development in students is one of our priorities at our organisation, he said, “I assess all students equally without considering gender, relationship, or religion, while modelling integrity and godly values”. With so much passion he said,” I want them to keep in mind that God’s word is the key to every decision they will make in life. Therefore, God first in everything”.
A brief biography about Ishaya Joshua
My name is Ishaya Joshua, born on 5th October 1993 in Yari Bori, Kafur LGA, Katsina State. I completed my primary, secondary, and tertiary education at Isa Kaita College of Education, Dutsin-Ma, where I graduated in Biology/Geography. I am married with one wife. I have served with Hasken Rayuwa Afrika Foundation for 1.5 years, teaching at Government Day Secondary School, Yari-Bori. I am passionate about raising godly children.
Favourite Bible verse: “But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” Matthew 6:33. One advice to students, “There is no limit to what you can achieve in life. Therefore, focus on your studies. Even without government work, knowledge is light”.
