Northern Nigeria, experience severe poverty that has affected millions of lives in the region, which are mostly young girls and women. Many rural communities struggle with inadequate resources and education. Agriculture and small trades are mainly the primary source of income due to lack of financial services and, infrastructure thereby affecting the ability to generate income. Beyond low income, people in the rural part of Northern Nigeria face intense deprivation to education, healthcare, sanitation and standard of living.
In addition, young girls are raised in such poverty-stricken places, left struggling with proper menstrual hygiene management. In most cases, they use unhealthy pieces of clothing, which seems to be the only resort to keep their confidence.
Imagine, a girl from a family who can barely afford a three square meal, requesting for money to get sanitary pad? Will the stomach be left paddling through hunger to get the girl a well healthy absorbent rectangle-shaped product?
